Pure Beauty is a mobile app designed to revolutionize the skincare shopping experience in Egypt. By offering personalized product recommendations and routine management, the app empowers users to make informed decisions, ensuring that skincare shopping is simple, enjoyable, and effective.
The skincare industry is experiencing explosive growth, and consumers in Egypt are increasingly seeking products that fit their specific skincare needs. Inspired by the desire to make this process easier, Pure Beauty was created to offer personalized skincare recommendations in a streamlined and enjoyable way.
Pure Beauty simplifies the skincare shopping experience with personalized product recommendations, interactive features, and routine management tools, all tailored to meet the unique needs of Egyptian consumers. The app’s standout feature, the Glow-tine Routine Manager, empowers users to effortlessly integrate new products into their skincare routines and track their progress.
During my research, I found that offering a wide range of skincare products without guidance can be overwhelming and ineffective for consumers. The global skincare market is thriving, with Egypt’s growth being equally promising. Yet, the overwhelming number of skincare options makes it challenging for consumers to find the right products. Personalized skincare brands are emerging but offer limited selections. Large beauty retailers provide variety, but lack meaningful guidance.
After understanding the global and Egyptian market trends, I conducted a screener survey to gauge how Egyptian consumers interact with skincare products. The survey revealed that most users feel confused by the sheer number of options and seek personalized guidance.
From the survey, I selected several participants for deeper interviews. These users often turned to large retailers but felt unsatisfied with the guidance offered. They expressed a strong desire for an app that simplifies product selection based on their specific skincare needs.

To validate the user pain points and needs, I interviewed skincare experts who emphasized the importance of providing users with accurate, tailored product recommendations and a holistic skincare journey.
Misconception of Users: Many users don't understand how to combine active ingredients, leading to ineffective or even harmful routines.
Professional Guidance: Estheticians recommend creating tailored routines that balance hydration, treatment, and protection.
Improvement Suggestion: The expert suggested that the Pure Beauty app could offer virtual consultations or AI-powered product suggestions to help users navigate complex ingredient interactions.
I began by analyzing both direct and indirect competitors in the skincare industry, focusing on those offering personalized routines, product recommendations, and shopping experiences. This helped me identify key opportunities to enhance Pure Beauty’s user experience by integrating features that address gaps in guidance, routine management, and product selection.
I used a 2 x 2 prioritization matrix to categorize the needs based on users' necessity and priority. Then, I decided on the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) features for the product.
After having done the user and desk research, I synthesized the data and insights to find seven pain points that are crucial for users to success.
Users need a way to easily find products that are proven to work for their unique skin type and concerns. Pure Beauty must focus on delivering personalized, expert-backed recommendations.
Pure Beauty's app should simplify the process of integrating new products into existing routines. By offering features that help users track progress and ensure products work harmoniously together.
Users want to understand what ingredients are in the products they're using and how they benefit their skin. Providing clear, accessible ingredient breakdowns will empower users to make informed decisions.

Meet Sara Negm, a sensible adventurer who loves to explore new skincare products but often feels overwhelmed by the number of options. Sara’s journey highlights the need for clear, personalized guidance to help her choose products that fit her skincare routine. She seeks an app that simplifies her decision-making process, allowing her to confidently try new products that suit her skin.
After analyzing Sara’s journey, I focused on three main challenges:
I used the Crazy 8s brainstorming exercise to generate initial ideas for the app’s key features. After several rounds, I honed in on the concept of an evolving, personalized Routine Builder that would help users manage their skincare routines while receiving curated product recommendations.
Unmoderated hybrid card sorting was conducted to create an Information Architecture that meets user expectations.
Based on the previous hybrid card sorting, I created an Information Architecture that meets user expectations.
Informed by my ideation, I designed the Glow-tine Routine Manager and built wireframes around this central feature. The Glow-tine feature allows users to organize their skincare products into routines, shop for new items, and receive personalized tips. I ensured that the user flow was seamless from the moment they opened the app to the point of finalizing a purchase.
I created several low-fidelity prototypes to visualize core user flows and gather initial feedback. This process helped refine the design structure and prioritize essential features before transitioning to high-fidelity versions.
I created high-fidelity prototypes to explore design variations, enabling user testing and feedback to refine the experience.
A sticker sheet was developed to ensure visual consistency across the app. This included color schemes, typography, and reusable components, ensuring that each element aligned with the brand and user expectations.
During the low-fidelity prototype testing, participants valued the personalized product recommendations but felt the shopping experience should come first, with educational content as a secondary focus. When testing the high-fidelity prototype, users appreciated the introduction of the Glow-tine Routine Manager for organizing routines. They reiterated the need to prioritize shopping, while finding the ingredient highlights useful for making confident product decisions.
Based on feedback, I made several key revisions:
Building Pure Beauty taught me the importance of balancing a user-friendly interface with personalized features. By listening to user feedback, I was able to refine the app and make it a truly transformative experience for Egyptian skincare consumers.
In the next phase, I will continue testing and refining the Glow-tine Routine Builder to ensure it delivers the best possible experience for users. The goal is to launch a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that can be expanded with additional features like AI-powered product recommendations and routine reminders.
